Basic Information
I just wanted to let you all know that Jen Berry and a few others have been working on some improvements this year. It looks like the fly-in will be held in Havasu City so hotel rooms will be easily accessible. Being in town will also give riders the chance to eat from a variety of restaurants located near the host site. We are currently working on locking down a host hotel and launch location. The way things are going right now it looks like there will be camping space available at Crazy Horse Campground but as said we are working on the details.
We will also be putting together a very small competition for Saturday. Nothing huge and very basic. Well something's huge. SICK TRICK and BIG AIR! We are going to put together a simple format to give those who have not had a chance to compete a small taste of the butterflies. If you're thinking about riding at the Freedom Fighters event or even the National's this will give you a chance to see what it's like with a little bit of pressure to perform. We are still working on the details but we are leaning towards a "Jump Out" for the novice level riders, a "Flip Out" for intermediate, "Big Air" and "Sick Trick" for the advanced level riders. Sick Trick will be judged by the spectators. We are hoping to run this format quickly so it's not an all day event. It looks like the competition will be help in front of the beach at Crazy Horse Campgrounds. This is all still in the works so don't hold me to it but these are some of the goals.
Marty with N2Orbit will be sending a set of wings out for rider demos. If you want to try the new XXX, UFO, Nitro wings they will be available for a ride. If you like what you rode these same wings will be available for purchase.
Benton and Samson Sports will be sending out a few Bullets. If his inventory allows he might be able to send out a dozen that will be available for sale. This will give our riders a chance to see the Bullet first person if they are on edge whether they want one or not.
Mark Lee and Bryan Steele will return this year with the cheater tower in-tow. For those of you that have not had the chance to ride on a Cheater Tower this is it. The Cheater Tower will be the equipment to have. Darth Fern uses it for 50+ frame wake mobes and 57 frame big air rolls. Bryan steel uses it with a Poly E rope to help give him the advantage of going big while riding at slower speeds. I use it to help my bad elbows because it does soak up a little bit of those hard line snaps.
Last year we had a couple of boats running some clinics for a few hours one day and we are hoping this year will be the same. Greg Crocket Utah Hydrofoil Club will be organizing the clinics this year. I know that there will be a few beginners learning to ride, novice riders learning to jump and trying their first inverts and possibly some advanced riders learning the more technical tricks. Want to get some pointers on your first invert? Maybe you have been thinking about that scary front flip? This is your chance to get some help from some advanced riders. Details to come.
We are also proud to say that it sounds like we will have a few more Pro riders in the house this year as well. B.Steele and Amy are planning on attending for the duration this year. I have also heard that Kevin Thayer might be coming out with Darrin Dinckle.
Women! Don't be afraid to ride! There will be quite a few women riders from all different skill levels. Who knows, maybe the women will commedere a boat and have a "ladies only" ride!
Another new thing this year is USHAs Grassroots Program. For more information click this link, USHA Grass roots info, Registration fees going towards the event have been reduced to accomidate this new USHA requirement. The new fee is $40. We might have to pass around a hat at the end of the weekend to get some help for fuel costs but an extra $20 from all will probably cover it.
As are all things in these hard times everything is speculative but it will be a blast to have all levels of riders at the Fly-In.
If you can't join this year or already have plans to enjoy one of the many other events being held this same weekend remember that 2010 is just around the corner and we look forward to having you out in the future.
